Early College Academy
Do you want to accelerate your learning, beginning college coursework while you’re still in high school? Would you like to graduate high school with at least 1 year of college work completed?

Golden Eagle Charter School’s Early College Academy blends traditional high school core classes with college coursework at College of the Siskiyous to allow students to begin their college coursework while still in high school. With careful planning, it is possible to complete an AA degree while completing the high school graduation requirements. Most students will complete at least a full year of college coursework by the time they graduate. Due to the accelerated pace of college coursework, some students may complete their high school requirements within 3 years and can spend what would normally be their fourth year of high school completing an AA degree.

How the program works:
Students complete core high school classes at our site in Mt. Shasta. Most ninth grade students will complete all their courses at our high school site while participating in classes and activities geared towards preparing them to be successful in college courses during the remaining 3 years of high school. Some advanced 9th graders may begin COS courses during their second semester of 9th grade, with approval of parents and the Academy director. Starting in tenth grade, students begin taking one or two classes per semester at College of the Siskiyous. These may be either core academic classes such as math, science, English or history, or they may be elective classes, depending on the interests, motivation, and academic readiness of the student. During the 11th grade year, most students will attend 2 classes per semester at College of the Siskiyous. In their final high school year, students finish their high school graduation requirements while taking 2-3 courses per semester at the college.

During their 11th and 12th grade years, students will typically attend our high school site 2 days per week for their core academic classes and will attend College of the Siskiyous 2-3 days per week. Our schedule provides academic support and tutoring for students for both their high school and college classes.

What is the cost of the program?
Golden Eagle Charter School is a California public school, so there is no cost to students or their families. College of the Siskiyous has waived tuition for high school students, so there is no cost for the college courses either. Golden Eagle will provide the textbooks needed for the high school as well as the college courses. This means that with careful planning, students can complete up to 2 years of college completely free!
For students who choose to accelerate their high school graduation, graduating in 3 years and attending college full time the fourth year, regular COS fees will apply after graduation from Golden Eagle. Students will also be responsible for their own textbooks during the fourth year (after they are no longer enrolled in Golden Eagle).
