State Testing and Reporting
CST/STAR Testing
All GECS student and parents are notified of the mandatory state tests upon enrollment. In 2005, GECS was successful in getting 95% participation. We received a base API score of 572, and a similar schools rank of 1. In the following year, we again met our 95% participation rate, and our API jumped to 647. Our similar schools rank rose to 3, meeting and exceeding our API/AYP goals.
In addition GECS provides free standards based rest review materials months before the test so that our parents and students can review and practice participating in a testing format.
Because many of our students have never attended a traditional school, and are unfamiliar, if not intimidated by state mandated testing, we strive to create a supportive and warm environment for them during the CST/STAR assessment. GECS provides a variety of healthy snacks, frequent breaks, teacher encouragement, and small quiet settings.
