The students of GECS are assessed in a variety of ways. Upon
enrollment, students take the Scantron Assessment Series which is a set of
computer-based tests in Math,
Reading and Language Arts. This is a program GECS is implementing this
year. There will be a post-test in spring of 2009 to assess growth on
every level- student, grade and school.
The Scantron program breaks test scores down by individual standard and concept. The program also can generate worksheets for the concepts missed on the assessment. This has provided GECS with a standards-based assessment and remediation tool. We are already using this program to identify students’ weak points and provide needed curriculum and instruction in those areas.
The Scantron assessment will also
be used as a part of a state-wide project by a network of Personalized
Learning Schools. The APLUS+ Association is facilitating this project to
gather data to show how students are performing in Personalized
Learning Schools. Golden Eagle is participating in this project, and is
anxious to show individual student improvement over time.
