GECS creates a monthly report to document students’ progress through
the California StateStandards and other personally selected benchmarks.
The report
is the result of an interview between the
student, parent and teacher. The teacher records all subjects covered.
For each subject entry, the teacher documents three things:
Materials: book names, video titles, internet site
addresses, pages, chapters or lessons covered,
Concepts: What did the student learn? What concepts
was he or she exposed to?
Method of Study: What activities were employed to
learn the concepts? Read and answer questions? Observation? Experiments?
Assessment: How did the student prove learning had
taken place? Was there an essay? A quiz? A presentation? A drawing?
In addition to the above
information, the learning record also includes time value for the work,
as determined by the credentialed teacher. The time value of the work
is used to substantiate attendance apportionment for that student, and
to track the volume of work completed toward assigning credits.
Attached to the Learning record are representative samples of original student work. At each visit, the teacher checks student work, and collects samples of that work. She or he attaches representative samples of that work to the learning record report.
When learning records are complete, they are turned in to the School coordinator for review and filing. The learning record is the primary document supporting apportionment, credits and documentation of student work.
