In central Weed,
GECS provides enrichment classes for K-5th grade students who would
like to participate in community learning experiences. Classes
are offered each semester based on student needs, interest and teacher
availability. Center-based field trip excursions related to topics
being studied occur regularly. The purpose of the enrichment program is
to provide social and academic experiences outside the home which serve
to enrich the child's overall homeschool experience. Empowering student
growth, we provide a setting which celebrates individuality and fosters
a respectful caring community.
Morning meetings are held each day, providing a venue for students
to share personal
experiences,
express ideas and participate in community building. This program
provides an ideal platform for homeschooling parents to meet and
collaborate. Parents participate through volunteer opportunities and
are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings where they can actively
contribute to the design and scope of K-5 enrichment..
Kindergarten-second grade classes are offered on Mondays and
Wednesdays. This program provides early elementary students with an
opportunity to interact with peers in a group setting; experiencing an
educational environment outside their homes.
The focus of
the enrichment classes is to promote positive, fun, hands-on group
learning experiences that address varied learning styles. In addition,
students are supported through modeling and practicing of social skills
such as sharing, taking turns, conflict resolution strategies,
providing positive feedback to peers and following directions.
Third-fifth grade classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The
K-5 staff is devoted to creating and fostering a caring, compassionate,
exciting and interesting educational environment. Community building
and citizenship are emphasized in the 3rd-5th program. Classes provide
hands on, cooperative and project based learning experiences which
address diverse learning styles. The program offers a combination of
skills based and elective classes to enrich the student's overall
homeschool plan. Classes in visual and performing arts are offered two
hours each week.
