Governance Council

 

Golden Eagle Charter School is a 501c3, non profit corporation.  Our Governance Council serves as the corporate board of directors, and is governed in its operations and its actions by the corporate bylaws of the Charter School, which are consistent with the terms of the charter, the Charter Schools Act, and all other applicable laws.  The Governance Council has final authority for all aspects of the school’s operation and educational program.  The roles and responsibilities of the Governance Council include but are not limited to:

  • Finance:
    Monitor fiscal solvency and management.
    Approve budgets/spending and fiscal policies.
  • Educational Program:
    Monitor student performance.
    Ensure curriculum aligns with mission.
  • Personnel:
    Hire/fire/evaluate Director.
    Approve personnel policies.
  • Facilities:
    Enter into financing and building contracts.
    Approve construction and remodeling of facilities.

The Governance Council meets the second Thursday of the month at 6pm, at Golden Eagle Charter School, 190 Boles Street, Weed.

Council Member Biographies

Kay ShortKay Short
Kay Short is the grandmother of four students enrolled in Golden Eagle Charter School.  She has extensive experience in education and psychology at many levels.  In addition to her work with Golden Eagle, she is currently serving as president of Gamma Nu Chapter and is also on the State Leadership Development Committee for Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Int., an organization of women educators.  In addition to her educational organizations, she is Chair of the Hoy Family Park Committee in Lake Shastina and sings with the College of the Siskiyous Community Choir. 


George Boyd
George BoydGeorge Boyd has served on the Governance Council since 2004.  He is the parent of a charter school graduate, and his 12th grader will graduate from Golden Eagle Charter School this year.  George and his family were drawn to Siskiyou County because of the fresh mountain air, crystal clean water and the promise of better educational opportunities for his children.  He is a journeyman electrician and is working as a technician for a local water company.


Ken Goehring
Ken GoehringKen Geohring has always been interested in public education. He retired from full-time teaching in 2002 after 28 years at the College of the Siskiyous. During these years he taught chemistry, biology, anthropology and computer programming and was Vice President of Technology Services for 2 years. He currently teaches  Biological Anthropology. Ken is involved in a study of the pikas (rock rabbits) that live on Mt. Shasta and is documenting  an ancient fossil forest from Siskiyou county. For fun Ken enjoys hiking, swimming and playing slack-key guitar. Ken lives with his wife and daughter, their dog and many forest creatures a few miles from Weed, California.


Cindy McCabe
Cindy McCabeCindy McCabe is the mother of a Golden Eagle Charter School student.  She and her family have lived in the Mount Shasta area since 1987.  Cindy works as a bookkeeper and in addition has served for 5 years as a School Site Council member for Mt. Shasta Elementary and Sisson Elementary Schools and 2 years for Mt. Shasta High School.  Cindy has volunteered in the classrooms, served as spelling bee coordinator and worked at various fundraising activities to benefit student activities.  She enjoys photography, bird watching, walks with her dogs, and traveling.


Leslie Ellorin
Leslie EllorinLeslie Ellorin is a 25+ year resident of Siskiyou County and mother of a Golden Eagle Charter School student.  Currently working as a full-time mother, Leslie’s professional background includes business finance/accounting and educational research.  As former Institutional Researcher at College of the Siskiyous, Leslie’s passion for education was ignited.  She is currently serving multiple service organizations, including the COS Foundation Board, the COS Alumni Association, Women Building Bridges for Peace, and is a volunteer 4-H Global Studies Project Leader.
