Community College Academic EnrichmentMany of our students take classes at our local community college, College of the Siskiyous http://www.siskiyous.edu.  To find out what the regulations are regarding K-12 students, go to this registration form (PDF) on the COS website.

Community College Academic EnrichmentSpecial Admission of K-12 Students
California Education Code Sections 48800, 76000, 76002 and 76001 allow Community Colleges to admit special part-time K-12 students who do not have a high school diploma or have not passed the California High School Proficiency or GED examinations.
  1. K-12 students age 15 and under may enroll in a maximum of three units or a maximum of one four or five-unit course per semester. Students who score 75 or above on the COS COMPASS Writing and Reading assessment may register for six units, or a maximum of two four or five unit courses.
  2. K-12 students age 16 and over may enroll in a maximum of six units or a maximum of two courses if one course is four or five units per semester. Students who score 75 or above on both sections of the COS COMPASS English and Reading assessment, may register for “up to, and including 12 units per semester.” (Ed. Code 760001d)
  3. The Special Admission Permit (revised 11/04) must be completed and submitted with the Enrollment/Registration form.
    Prior editions of the permit are not accepted.
  4. The permit is not required for students who have passed the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) or GED examination, or are high school graduates.

Students often take lab science classes at the junior college to satisfy UC and CSU entrance requirements. Often foreign language is the draw to the campus, or other special interest class that is not available at the school site.  Students also enjoy getting a head start on their Baccalaureate degrees!

http://ce.byu.edu/is/site Brigham young University Independent Study Program offers many classes at high school as well as university level online.

www.uccp.org University of California College Preparation website offers many online courses (including AP classes) as well as Sat preparation courses.

http://nebraskahs.unl.edu/index.shtml  University of Nebraska-Lincoln Independent Study High School is an institution which offers courses. It offers over 105 courses in 16 subjects. Courses are provided in print, over the Internet, and on CD-ROM.

www.ndisonline.org North Dakota Division of Independent Study: offers 85 accredited courses online, and complete 4th-12th grade curriculum that can be completed by correspondence, or by the student and his/her teacher at GECS.
